Do you know a Champion for Quality?

The new decade signals big changes for manufacturing, especially for companies using technology to advance plant floor quality and safety.

Our annual Champions for Quality awards celebrate quality professionals at all levels who have made a significant impact on quality.

This year, we’re shining a spotlight on those who have contributed to quality programs like layered process audits, operational excellence and Lean initiatives, and to those who have gone above and beyond including to accommodate for COVID-19 risks.

We invite you to nominate anyone who has positively impacted quality culture at a plant (even yourself!). Be sure to include a detailed submission explaining why your nominee embodies the spirit of a Champion for Quality!

Overview

A global automotive supplier looking to improve visibility into quality decided to replace its manual paper-based audit system with Beacon Quality software. Background

The company had conducted paper-based layered process audits (LPAs) for many years. In 2012, they launched a visual management process called Kamishibai—Japanese for “paper drama”—to structure audits using cards randomly selected from two decks. Jacobs Vehicle Systems is a leading manufacturer of advanced engine braking systems and valve activation technologies, with manufacturing locations in North America, Europe and Asia.

The team would choose a card from the first deck to determine the audit location. The card selected from the second deck indicated the process to audit, showing acceptable results on one side (colored green) and non-compliant results on the opposite side (colored red). Auditors would post results on a dry erase board, then log them in spreadsheets.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does my "inspiring story" have to be?

The length of the story does not determine if you will win. It's the actions that were taken, the way you motivated your team, and the real results that came from it. Please keep stories to 500 words or less, which is about a full page typed. The best stories can be shared within 150 - 250 words, which is about a paragraph to a 1/2 page.

Can I nominate my plant, not just one person?

Yes! Just enter the plant location for the 'Nominee's Name' and the company under 'Company'. Then share your inspiring story of how your plant came together to make quality a top priority. However, if your plant wins, you will still need to choose 1 person to represent the plant as the winner for interviews.

How will winners be chosen?

An elected panel of Quality professionals and the EASE team will review all submissions and choose the winners for each category.

I have submitted a nomination in the past, can I do it again?

If you've sent in a nomination before, but didn't win, you may enter our contest again!

Why are you hosting a Champions for Quality awards?

The quality department in a manufacturing plant doesn't get a lot of attention until something goes wrong: a rise in defects, scrap or re-work, or a customer complaint. We want to recognize the people who are behind building a culture of quality, who have helped customer complaints decrease, and built long-lasting quality processes which make a big impact on the bottom line (specifically, with LPAs). We want to recognize you: a Champion for Quality!
